1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

1 cup pepperoni slices

2 cups pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 small red bell pepper, diced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

1 small onion, diced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

8 ounces refrigerated pizza dough

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking.

    Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, crumble the Italian sausage into the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Use a spatula to break the sausage into small pieces as it cooks.

      Add veggies: Once the sausage is browned, add the diced onion and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook for another 5-6 minutes, until the vegetables are soft. Stir occasionally.

        Mix in the sauces and seasonings: Pour in the pizza sauce, and stir in the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the mixture simmer for a couple of minutes to combine all the flavors.

          Layer the cheeses: Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage and vegetable mixture.

            Prepare the pizza dough: On a floured surface, roll out the refrigerated pizza dough into a large circle, or stretch by hand to fit over the skillet. Make sure it's slightly larger than the skillet to allow for some overhang.

              Cover the skillet: Carefully place the rolled-out pizza dough over the top of the skillet mixture. Tuck any edges down into the skillet.

                Top with more cheese and pepperoni: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the dough, then layer the pepperoni slices evenly over the cheese.

                  Bake: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
