Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

½ cup whole milk, warmed

¼ cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp salt

For the Filling:

3 medium apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk (more if needed)

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and melted butter in a bowl. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a large rectangle, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Assemble the Rolls: Evenly spread the apple filling over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Prepare for Baking: Grease a large baking dish (9x13 inch) and place the cinnamon roll slices in the dish. Cover with the kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

Baking: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

Make the Glaze: While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if necessary.

Finish and Serve: Once the rolls are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve warm and enjoy the delightful flavors of fall!
