Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steak:

1 pound ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

2 cups mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button mushrooms)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Salisbury Steaks:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.

      - Shape the mixture into oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

        Cook the Steaks:

          - Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil.

            - Once the oil is hot, add the shaped patties to the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.

              Make the Mushroom Gravy:

                - In the same skillet, add the olive oil and butter. Once the butter has melted, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they’re golden brown and have released their juices.

                  - Sprinkle in the flour, stirring constantly to create a roux. Cook for an additional minute.

                    - Gradually whisk in the beef broth. Stir in the soy sauce, thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.

                      Combine and Serve:

                        - Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over the top. Simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until heated through.

                          - Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

                            Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes | Servings: 4

Enjoy this classic comfort food with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for a delightful meal!
