Ingredients

4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite)

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter

1 cup light corn syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

1 cup chopped nuts (peanuts, walnuts, or almonds)

1 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

1 cup crushed graham crackers (optional)

Skewers or toothpicks for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove the stems and insert skewers or toothpicks into the tops of each apple for easier dipping. Cut each apple into bite-sized pieces (about 1-1.5 inches) and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Make the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, butter, corn syrup, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture comes to a boil.

Cook Until Thickened: Allow the caramel to boil without stirring for about 5-7 minutes until it turns a golden brown color. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon (if using).

Dip the Apple Bites: Allow the caramel to cool slightly for about 2 minutes. Then, dip each apple piece into the warm caramel, ensuring it's fully coated. Use a fork to lift the pieces out and allow the excess caramel to drip off.

Toppings Galore: Place the caramel-coated apple bites back on the parchment-lined tray. Quickly sprinkle with your choice of chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or graham cracker crumbs while the caramel is still warm so that the toppings adhere well.

Chill and Serve: Once all apple bites are coated and topped, refrigerate the tray for at least 30 minutes to allow the caramel to set. Serve the delicious bites chilled or at room temperature, and enjoy!
