Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 tsp salt

2 large eggs, room temperature

For the filling:

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup pecans, chopped

For the caramel sauce:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warmed milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.

Mix the dough: Add the melted butter, salt, and eggs to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

Roll the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the top, followed by the chopped pecans.

Shape the buns: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Second rise: Cover the dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise for another 30 minutes.

Make the caramel sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Assemble and bake: Pour the warm caramel sauce over the risen buns. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

Cool and serve: Allow the sticky buns to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. After cooling, carefully invert the pan onto a serving platter so that the caramel sauce drizzles over the buns. Enjoy warm!
