Ingredients

4 cups frozen French fries

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup sour cream

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Optional: 1 cup of cooked and crumbled bacon

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Add the ground beef to the skillet, seasoning with paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary.

Mix the Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine the sour cream and cream of mushroom soup. Mix well until smooth.

Assemble the Casserole: In a large baking dish (about 9x13 inches), layer half of the frozen French fries to cover the bottom. Spread the cooked meat mixture over the fries. Drizzle half of the sour cream mixture over the meat. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top.

Layering Continues: Add the remaining French fries on top of the cheese, followed by the remaining sour cream mixture. Finish by topping with the rest of the cheese. If using, sprinkle the crumbled bacon on top for added flavor.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
