Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons ground ginger

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup molasses

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together using a mixer on medium speed until fluffy and well combined (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Molasses and Egg: Mix in the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

Chill the Dough: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will make the dough easier to handle.

Roll Cookies: Once chilled, scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Then roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat it generously.

Bake: Place the sugar-coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set but the centers appear soft.

Cool: Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve and Enjoy: These cookies are perfect for sharing! Add them to your holiday cookie platter or gift them in a festive tin.
