Ingredients

For the Chicken Tenders:

1 pound chicken breast, sliced into strips

1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar/lemon juice)

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1 egg, beaten

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

For the Dipping Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the chicken strips and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2 hours, to let the chicken tenderize and soak up flavor.

Prepare the Breading Station: In one bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano. In a separate bowl, have your beaten egg ready.

Bread the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dip each strip first in the beaten egg, then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure it adheres well.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. This step ensures that the chicken crisps up nicely.

Air Fry the Chicken Tenders: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange the coated chicken strips in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch. Lightly spray the tops of the chicken tenders with cooking spray.

Cook to Perfection: Air fry the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and crispy. Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).

Make the Dipping Sauce: While the chicken is cooking, mix together the mayonnaise, honey, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Serve: Once the chicken tenders are done, let them cool slightly before serving. Pair them with the homemade dipping sauce for a delightful crunch and flavor!
