Ingredients

1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

1/2 cup honey

1/4 cup soy sauce

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (to thicken)

Sesame seeds and chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.

Coat the Chicken: Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring each piece is well coated. Shake off any excess flour and place the coated chicken pieces on a plate.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, the oil is hot enough.

Fry the Chicken: In batches, fry the chicken pieces in the hot oil for about 4-5 minutes, turning until golden brown and cooked through. Ensure there is enough space for the pieces to fry evenly. Remove the chicken with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Then, add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce, stirring continuously until it thickens, about 1-2 minutes.

Combine Chicken and Sauce: In a large bowl, add the crispy chicken bites and drizzle the honey garlic sauce over them. Toss gently to coat all the chicken pieces.

Garnish and Serve: Transfer the chicken bites to a serving platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately and enjoy your crispy honey garlic chicken bites!
