Deep Hamburger & Pepperoni Pie

For the Pie Crust:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

6-8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling:

1 lb ground beef

½ lb pepperoni, sliced

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping:

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Extra mozzarella cheese for topping

Instructions
 

Make the Pie Crust:

    - In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

      - Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

        Prepare the Filling:

          - In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.

            - Add the onions and garlic, cooking until softened. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes, then remove from heat.

              Assemble the Pie:

                - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

                  - Roll out one dough disc on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place the rolled dough into the dish, allowing the edges to hang over.

                    - Layer half the pepperoni slices on the bottom, followed by the beef mixture, then add the mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Top with the remaining pepperoni slices.

                      - Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the filling. Seal and crimp the edges. Cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

                        Bake the Pie:

                          - Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden crust. Sprinkle with extra mozzarella cheese.

                            - Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.

                              Cool and Serve:
