Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)

Optional: 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until creamy and light. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Add Egg and Vanilla: Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract into the creamed mixture, mixing until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined, being cautious not to overmix.

Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips and, if desired, the chopped nuts until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Form Biscuits: Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of the dough and form them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges look firm. The centers may look slightly underbaked, but they will firm up as they cool.

Cool Down: Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve and Enjoy: Once cooled, enjoy your delicious chocolate biscuits with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
