Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed, about 17.3 oz)

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or your favorite cheese)

1 cup thinly sliced ham (preferably smoked or honey ham)

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon fresh chives (finely chopped)

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

Prepare the Work Surface: Start by lightly dusting your work surface with flour to prevent sticking. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth it out slightly, approximately 1/8 inch thick.

Cut the Pastry: Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry sheet into triangles. Aim for 8 triangles (each triangle should have a base of about 5 inches).

Layer the Filling: On each triangle, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard. Then, place a slice of ham on top, followed by a generous amount of shredded Gruyère cheese. Sprinkle with chopped chives, and season with salt and pepper as desired.

Roll the Croissants: Starting from the base of each triangle, carefully roll the pastry towards the tip to form a croissant shape. Gently bend the ends towards each other to form a crescent shape if desired.

Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the rolled croissants on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whip the egg until it is fully blended. Brush the egg wash over each croissant for a beautiful golden-brown finish.

Bake: Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the croissants are puffed up and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the croissants from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, and enjoy the delightful flaky layers filled with ham and cheese!
