Ingredients

2 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Fuji)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 large egg

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Oil for frying (e.g., vegetable or canola oil)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Optional: caramel sauce or chocolate sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: Core and slice each apple into wedges about 1/4 inch thick. Pat the apple slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Make the Batter: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk and vanilla extract.

Combine: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be somewhat thick but smooth. If it's too thick, add a little more milk until the desired consistency is reached.

Heat the Oil: In a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, pour in enough oil to be about 2-3 inches deep. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter in; it should sizzle and rise to the surface when ready.

Fry the Apple Wedges: Dip each apple wedge into the batter, ensuring they are well coated. Carefully place a few battered apple slices into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through if needed.

Drain Excess Oil: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried apple fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Dust and Serve: While the apple fries are still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar. For an extra indulgence, serve with caramel or chocolate sauce for dipping.

Enjoy: Serve immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
