Salmon is the star of this dish, renowned for its rich flavor and impressive nutritional profile. It's an excellent source of high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins such as B12 and D. When selecting salmon, opt for fresh fillets if possible. Look for vibrant color and avoid any fish that has an overly fishy smell. Wild-caught salmon tends to be more flavorful and has a firmer texture compared to farmed varieties, making it an excellent choice for this recipe. Additionally, consider the thickness of the fillets; thinner pieces will cook faster, so adjust your cooking time accordingly.

Ingredients

4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

Juice of 1 lemon

Zest of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the seasoning: In a small bowl, mix the salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).

Sear the salmon: In a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Season the salmon fillets with the seasoning mix on both sides. Once the butter is hot, place the fillets skin-side down in the skillet. Sear for about 4 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden.

Make the garlic butter: While the salmon is searing, in another small saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from the heat, then stir in the lemon juice and zest.

Bake the salmon: Once the salmon is seared, carefully pour the garlic butter mixture over the fillets in the skillet. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.

Serve: Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the fresh chopped parsley over the salmon. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
