Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (cooked)

3/4 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with some cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and the diced ham into the dry ingredients, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the whole milk and melted butter. Whisk until they are fully combined.

Mix Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Scoop the biscuit batter into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly; the batter will be thick.

Make It Swim: In a separate bowl, melt an additional 1/2 cup of butter. Slowly pour this melted butter over the batter in the baking dish, ensuring even coverage. Do not stir; this will allow the biscuits to ‘swim’ in the butter while baking.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes in the pan. Sprinkle fresh chives (if using) on top before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy!
