Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

½ cup warm milk (110°F)

¼ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the filling:

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the cream cheese frosting:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-3 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir lightly and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until everything comes together to form a dough.

Knead: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangular shape (about 16x24 inches) to about ¼ inch thickness.

Add the Filling: Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly, pressing it gently into the butter.

Roll the Dough: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.

Cut the Rolls: Slice the log into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss (for cleaner cuts).

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until they puff up.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake: Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t overbake.

Make the Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

Frost the Rolls: Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.

Serve: Enjoy your homemade cinnamon rolls warm for the best experience!
