Ingredients

For the meat sauce:

1 lb ground beef

6 slices of bacon, chopped

1 small onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

For the cheese mixture:

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 egg

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

For assembly:

9-12 lasagna noodles (no-boil or regular)

1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan. Add the diced onion to the pan and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Simmer the Sauce: To the beef mixture, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, cooked bacon, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, egg, garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 3-4 lasagna noodles on top, followed by half of the cheese mixture and half of the remaining meat sauce. Repeat layers with another set of noodles, the rest of the cheese mixture, and the rest of the meat sauce. Top with the last layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining 1.5 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (try to avoid touching the cheese) and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna sit for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
