Ingredients

1 cup pecan halves

1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree

1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk

3 large eggs

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Optional: whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Combine the filling ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth and well blended.

Pour the filling: Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Add the pecans: Sprinkle the pecan halves evenly over the pumpkin filling.

Top with cake mix: Evenly distribute the dry yellow cake mix over the pecans. Do not stir; just sprinkle it on top, creating an even layer.

Add melted butter: Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cake mix layer, ensuring to cover as much of the surface as possible.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

Cool & serve: Allow the dump cake to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Cut into squares and serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
