Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for spice level)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 cup buttermilk (or non-dairy milk + 1 tbsp vinegar, let sit for 5 mins)

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crunch)

1/4 cup buffalo hot sauce (like Frank's RedHot)

2 tbsp unsalted vegan butter (or regular butter)

Optional: chopped green onions and celery sticks for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu block into bite-sized cubes or triangles. Pat the pieces dry with a kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

Create the Breading Station: In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, pour the buttermilk (or non-dairy milk mixture). In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.

      Bread the Tofu:

        - Dip each tofu piece into the flour mixture, coating evenly. Shake off the excess.

          - Next, dip it into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off.

            - Finally, roll it in breadcrumbs until fully coated. Repeat this process for all tofu pieces.

Air-Fry the Tofu: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the breaded tofu pieces in a single layer in the basket. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Prepare the Buffalo Sauce: While the tofu is cooking, melt the vegan butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in the buffalo hot sauce until well combined, then remove the sauce from heat.

Toss the Tofu in Sauce: Once the tofu is done, place it in a large bowl and pour the buffalo sauce over it. Gently toss until all the pieces are well coated.

Serve: Plate the spicy buffalo tofu bites and garnish with chopped green onions and serve alongside celery sticks for an extra crunch. Enjoy your fiery snack!
