Ingredients

1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 package (16 oz) store-bought angel food cake (or homemade, if preferred)

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Strawberries: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar. Toss gently and let them sit for about 15-20 minutes until the strawberries release their juices and become syrupy. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract after the strawberries have macerated.

Make the Whipped Cream: In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer on medium speed until it starts to thicken. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then increase the speed to high and continue whipping until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

Assemble the Trifle: Cut the angel food cake into bite-sized cubes. In a large glass trifle bowl or individual serving glasses, start layering by placing a layer of angel food cake at the bottom. Follow this with a layer of macerated strawberries and a layer of whipped cream. Repeat layers until you reach the top of the bowl or glasses, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.

Chill and Serve: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together. Just before serving, garnish with fresh mint leaves for an added touch.
