Ingredients

20 large pasta shells

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg

1 tsp Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Shells: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Mix the Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir in the cooked beef mixture until well combined.

Stuff the Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spoon a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Using a spoon, fill each pasta shell with the beef and cheese mixture and place them in the baking dish, open-side up.

Add Sauce and Cheese: Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells and sprinkle the top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, let the dish sit for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious stuffed pasta shells!
