Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 medium apple, peeled and diced

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choice)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, applesauce, diced apple, honey or maple syrup, almond milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), baking powder, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are fully combined.

Add Extras: Fold in the chopped nuts and dried fruits if you’re using them. This adds texture and flavor to the squares.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, lift the squares out using the parchment paper (if used) and cool on a wire rack for another 15-20 minutes before slicing into squares.

Serve: These Sweet Apple Oatmeal Squares can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. They make a great breakfast option, snack, or even a healthy dessert. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
