1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

For the Crisp Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For Serving:

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional)

Extra caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Make the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and flour. Toss well to coat the apples evenly. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the apple mixture and stir to combine. Transfer the apple filling to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Prepare the Crisp Topping: In a separate bowl, mix the oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until the dry ingredients are well combined and form a crumbly texture. If you're using nuts, stir them in at this point.

Assemble the Crisp: Evenly spread the oat mixture over the apple filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Serve: Allow the caramel apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce if desired, and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
