Ingredients

1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, melted

2 cups (400g) granulated sugar

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour

1 cup (90g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for extra fudginess)

1/2 cup (85g) walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix the wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. The mixture should appear smooth and glossy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine the dry ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. This helps eliminate lumps and gives your brownies a smoother texture.

Combine wet and dry: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula or wooden spoon, being careful not to overmix. You want just combined; a few flour streaks are okay.

Add chocolate chips and nuts: If you’re incorporating chocolate chips and nuts, gently fold those into the batter until evenly distributed.

Pour batter into the pan: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly with a spatula. Don’t smooth the top too much; creating a few swirls gives them a lovely texture.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter!). Baking times may vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on them toward the end.

Cool and slice: Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes. Use the parchment paper (if lined) to lift them out of the pan, then slice them into squares.

Serve & Enjoy: For the ultimate indulgence, serve the brownies warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Enjoy!
