Ingredients

For the Meat Sauce:

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound ground beef

1 pound ground Italian sausage

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried basil

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Ricotta Mixture:

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Salt and pepper, to taste

For Assembling the Lasagna:

12 lasagna noodles (no-boil or regular)

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Extra grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Sauce:

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Add the ground beef and sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer the sauce uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

          Prepare the Ricotta Mixture:

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and set aside.

              Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

                  Assemble the Lasagna:

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top.

Spread a portion of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese and a layer of meat sauce.

Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce) until you have used all ingredients, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and extra Parmesan for a golden crust.

                          Bake:

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, spray foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

                              Let it Rest:

Once out of the oven, let the lasagna rest for about 15-20 minutes before slicing. This will help the layers set and make serving easier.

                                  Serve:

Cut into squares, serve hot, and enjoy this delicious, soul-satisfying lasagna! Garnish with extra parsley or grated Parmesan if desired.
